Objectives of this Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of Curio Group. The Senior Accountant (part-time 3 days/week) will work closely with the COO, CEO and key business leaders, and external accounting providers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement of finance processes. This role will also lead the implementation of new accounting governance requirements, support internal audit testing, and provide guidance on international tax compliance and ERP-related decision-making.
Please note that this is a hybrid role, requiring 1-2 days per week in the Melbourne office and other days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead the implementation of evolving Australian accounting governance changes (e.g. future STP equivalents)
- Support the preparation of all statutory obligations, including FBT, BAS, GST
- Assist with cashflow management, month-end and year-end reporting
- Provide oversight of internal audit processes, including routine testing of key data and improving financial integrity.
- Collaborate on international tax planning and compliance matters, working with internal teams and external advisors.
- Contribute insights into ERP systems and tools to support informed future business system decisions.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll, invoicing and supplier payments
- Review general ledger and reconciliations, including inter-company journals and consolidation entries
- Collaborate with outsourced accounting partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Support management reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes for the business
- Identify and contribute to process improvements and business initiatives
- Maintain productive working relationships with key business stakeholders
- Support documentation of finance processes and procedure manuals
- Contribute to sound financial operations (systems and processes) to manage cash flow in a growing business
- Assist with the preparation of monthly finance reports for board meetings
- Support bookkeeping and financial oversight of Curio’s international subsidiaries
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CA or CPA qualified (or working towards qualification)
Essential Experience
- 4–6 years’ experience in accounting or finance roles, with increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-entity environments, including financial consolidations.
- Proven ability to manage month-end reporting, cash flow management, and compliance obligations (e.g. BAS, GST, FBT).
- Experience in a professional services firm, SaaS environment, or high-growth business.
Desired Experience & Attributes
- Experience implementing evolving accounting governance processes (e.g. STP or equivalents)
- Familiarity with internal audit frameworks and approaches to improve accounting accuracy and integrity
- Exposure to international tax compliance and planning across jurisdictions
- Experience advising on or evaluating ERP systems and financial technologies
- Proficiency with Xero and reporting tools such as Syft or Power BI.
- Familiarity with accounting across UK or international jurisdictions.
- Strong grasp of accounting standards, compliance requirements, and the ability to produce value-adding financial analysis.
- A proactive mindset with interest in technology, education, or digital services sectors.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional and offshore teams
